CVS to offer free screenings for Women's Health Week

National Women's Health Week is May 8-14, and CVS MinuteClinics aim to use the period to help women understand their risk for cardiovascular disease.

Many of the company's 1,200 locations will offer a no-cost "Know Your Numbers" heart health screening, which include tests for total cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index.

To participate, women can schedule a visit at their nearest MinuteClinic location, then print or download their Heart Health screening voucher. The voucher should be brought to the clinic for their visit.

Although the large majority of cardiac events can be prevented, CVS says many women do not have enough awareness of heart disease to reduce their risk.

Dr. Joanne Armstrong, vice president and chief medical officer for women's health at CVS, notes that "learning your heart health numbers is a critical step toward living a healthy life."

In addition to the free heart health screenings, CVS Pharmacy locations nationwide are raising funds to support the Go Red for Women campaign through May 28. Customers can round up their change to make a donation to the American Heart Association initiative which is designed to increase women’s heart health awareness.
