All Costco Customers Will Be Required to Wear Face Mask

Grocery stores have been adjusting their store policies in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and Costco is the latest to add more requirements for shoppers.Starting next month, customers are required to wear a face mask or face covering while inside Costco facilities.

Some of the already-existing procedures include special shopping hours for elderly shoppers and those with physical disabilities, as well as priority access for healthcare workers and first responders that allows them to skip lines. Costco has also announced that no more than two people can be let in per membership card. In El Paso, TX, Kentucky, and Puerto Rico, only one person is allowed in per membership card.

The new policy regarding face masks is yet another precaution to keep customers and workers safe. According to the Costco website, the use of a mask does not mean that social distancing while shopping in the stores should be ignored. Per their site:

To protect our members and employees, effective May 4, all Costco members and guests must wear a mask or face covering that covers the mouth and nose at all times while at Costco. This requirement does not apply to children under the age of 2 or to individuals who are unable to wear a mask or face covering due to a medical condition. The use of a mask or face covering should not be seen as a substitute for social distancing. Please continue to observe rules regarding appropriate distancing while on Costco premises.

Costco also has restrictions on returning certain items and is only offering food from its food court to go.
