TS Cindy closes in on the Gulf Coast

A disorganized weather system stirring in the Gulf of Mexico over the weekend has transformed into a tropical storm forecast to make landfall early Thursday along the Texas-Louisiana border, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds and potential flooding.

Emergency management crews in Galveston and Harris counties braced for Cindy, as the storm was officially named early Tuesday after its path and wind strength slowly mounted, posing a threat to a wide swath of the Gulf Coast.

Most of the storm's notable impact is expected to hit east of Houston, but first responders and meteorologists say that could change if the storm continues moving westward.
