Two big-name Hollywood actresses, Halle Berry and Jennifer Garner, were in the California capital lobbying for stricter laws against the paparazzi. The California legislature is considering more stringent harassment laws, which would apply to pointing a camera lens near children.
Even worse, according to Halle’s testimony, is the verbal barrage. The photographers need explosive emotions in each picture, and will regularly provoke or taunt their subjects for good effect. However, Halle says it’s gone too far when one paparazzo asked her young daughter, “How do you feel about never seeing your father again?” And start the waterworks.
Garner told the politicians yesterday, “I chose a public life but my three children are private citizens. They’re beautiful and sweet and innocent. I don’t want a gang of lawbreaking photographers to continue traumatizing my kids.”
