A 12-year-old New Jersey girl was threatened with school suspension for being disruptive on the bus. So what was she doing that was so disruptive? She was using sign language to communicate because she’s hearing-impaired.
Now that the school district has gotten a ton of criticism over this, they’ve backpedaled by saying, "The district's policy and the principal's intention is not to ban signing. Everyone needs to know that signing is allowed on the bus."
They did, however, send the little girl home with a letter that clarifies the bus’s safety policy.
