She might not have a name like Billie Jean King, Wilma Rudolph or Dorothy Schroeder, but on March 3rd, Lauren Silberman will become the first female ever to try out at an NFL regional combine.
Silberman played club soccer at the University of Wisconsin and will be trying out at the New York Jets training facility in New Jersey, with a chance to earn an invitation to the super combine in Dallas in early April.
Silberman, who once wrote a Master’s thesis at MIT about how athletes use video games to enhance their performance on the playing field, will be trying to write even larger piece in less than three weeks, but this one into the NFL record book.
The 28-year-old said she was unaware that she was the first ever female registrant, “The opportunity to attend this event could not be more exciting,” Silberman told NFL.com on Tuesday. "Getting to meet interesting people and perfect my technique from others could not be more rewarding. Regardless of the outcome of the tryout, I hope there is a way I can contribute and strengthen the league.”
Could Silberman be the next great underdog story?
