We all know a traditional Thanksgiving meal to consist of things like turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, yams and other delicious starchy delights.

But if you want to rock the feast like a REAL pilgrim, you’re going to want to take notes.

We have a sample menu of what the pilgrims actually served up on this special day and sweet potatoes with marshmallows didn’t make the list:

  • Seafood – The first Thanksgiving was in in New England, which means sea creatures like oysters, cod and eel were bountiful and probably a big part of the feast.
  • Other Meats – Along with turkey there were also animals like goose, duck and venison at the dinner table.
  • Watercress – It was on the table at that very first Thanksgiving, so throw some of it in this year’s salad!
