JJ Johnston is the founder and artistic director of Classical Theatre Company and the director of Hamlet, with Irish actor Mathew Keenan in the title role.
CTC has been producing great plays for the past 3 years and their shows have impressed the heck out of me. We get to talk about how they manage to produce such great work, how American actors using British accents can be a mixed blessing (they’re not doing that in this production), what makes the experience of going to a play so much more than going to a movie, and we even get JJ to give us his impressions of the new Superman movie. We had a lot of fun.
Previews start on September 11th and the show opens on the 13th to run through the 29th at the Barnevelder Arts Complex. For tickets to the show and to find out how you can be a part of Classical Theatre Company, go to their website: www.classicaltheatre.org
Dr. Susan Rossmann is the Chief Medical Officer for the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and Meagan Raeke is their public relations coordinator. We go over the basics which are quite impressive: the size and scope of the services provided by the Blood Center make it one of the world’s best organization of its kind. It’s another reason to be proud of our area because this means people in our community are donating blood, money and time to make it work. We also discuss the increase in High School Blood drives and new rules concerning malaria, affecting travelers to Mexico.

Ana Treviño-Godfrey and Jonathan Godfrey are the founders of Prelude Music Classes for Children. They follow the curriculum established by the research-based Music Together program to offer Houstonians a chance to give their children a proper education through the arts. We discuss the necessity to socialize children through the arts, how it develops their intellect and just as importantly, their sense of compassion and self-respect. The arts have been ripped out of our school curriculums and it is, in our opinion, one of the main reasons why so many kids grow up to be rude, aggressive, violent and generally insufferable.
