Whether you are seeking friendship, love, forgiveness or just a place to relax and unwind & share stories from the heart, Delilah can help you.
Listen in 7-midnight weeknights and Sunday on SUNNY99.com.
My neighborhood is just beginning to turn an array of autumn hues. The morning dew is back and a slight chill has returned in the air. Hot tea in the morning is sounding better and better. In my garden I’m growing pumpkins! They should be ready to harvest early next month and soon the farmhouse will be filled with the scent of pumpkin pie, roasted pumpkin seeds and pumpkin bread!
This is a great time of year to gift a seasonal treat like a loaf of pumpkin bread or homemade apple cider mix to a dear friend. I love homemade and home baked gifts this time of year. You can just taste the love that went into making it.
If you’re giving gifts, then make sure you wrap up a copy of my new book, Arms Full of Love, to give with it. It’s sort of hand made. Every story in the book is hand picked, does that count? A lot of love went into this book and it shows in the content. Give a gift that warms the tummy and another to warm the heart on the first cool nights of the new season. My book will be available to purchase on Tuesday, September 25th in bookstores, retailers and wherever else books are sold.
Join me each and every night of the week for love songs and stories on the radio, and allow me to take you and your family to a peaceful resting place in the evening hours. I’ll be there to take your mind off work and school and the pressures of the day, and remind you to slow down and love someone.
My days are typically filled with noise…lots and lots of noise. I’m surrounded by farm animals, kids, friends of my kids and grandkids. I’m either running errands or talking with a neighbor or sitting in the studio at night talking with callers. I’m always talking to someone, it seems. I have the gift of gab so talking with people really is a blessing to me. But I rarely ever get to enjoy the silence.
Recently we've had some beautiful star-filled nights. I took it upon myself to get outside and see a shooting star and gaze up at the night sky in wonder. I finally got to be still with my own thoughts and let my mind run instead of letting other conversations run my mind.
It's important to build some silence into your life, whether it's gazing at the stars or gardening or sitting in prayer or meditation. It's important to reconnect with your thoughts and listen to the desires of your heart and soul. Some of my best ideas and life-changing ideas have come when I'm on auto-pilot, picking away at my garden in silence, letting my mind wander. When I reacquaint myself with my thoughts, those are the moments I get a healthy dose of spiritual and mental growth.
I hope you can make time for a peaceful moment in your day today. You may just need to wander outside and find a park bench where you can eat your lunch. If it's too blazing hot outside, maybe you can wander into an air-conditioned café and sip on an iced drink at a corner table in the back. Go to some peaceful setting where you can be alone and let your thoughts be present. Just a thought.
I’m brand new to a website called Pinterest. That’s right, if you know about it already, I’ve become a “pinhead” because I can’t get enough of it! If you haven’t started “pinning” yet, go to Pinterest.com and login to see what I mean. Then find my profile, Pinterest.com/DelilahShow, so you can see how much fun I’m having with this inspiring, or rather, Pinspiring site.
Pinterest is known for its wealth of ideas, crafts, recipes, DIY, decorations, holiday tips, garden photos and so much more (you can see why I love it) but I came across one really neat idea I have to pass along while there’s still time. It was one pinner’s “Summer 2012 Bucket List” and it included things like:
Read a book in the shade of a tree.
Take a weekend road trip.
Fly a kite.
Spend an entire day watching Harry Potter movies.
Ride a Ferris wheel.
See a shooting star.
Send a message in a bottle.
Build a sandcastle.
Build a big ice cream sundae.
Leave random, encouraging post-it notes.
Go to a drive-in movie theater.
A seasonal bucket list is a great way to make sure you stick to your goals and make the most of each season. Have you completed everything on your summer bucket list? It’s not late to make that list, you know. And I have one more thing you should add to it right now: Call the Delilah show and request a song for someone you love! Check that off your list tonight.
