Coming home from work and seeing the neighbor kids running thru the sprinkler on a hot day. I jumped in clothes and all. The look of surprise on their faces was SO worth it! Spontaneous and fun! Marie
I grew up on the West Side of Chicago where we put fences around the little patches of grass. My mom tended the grill all day, we did it the slow way. Oh, and getting to play outside, jumping double dutch in the street because they would block off traffic. We had block parties...music and food. Everyone would come out and sit on the concrete stairs. Rheda
Every summer since she was six, I've taken my niece camping. Two summers ago I was thrilled to be taking my, then 10-year-old niece on her first airplane ride from Maryland to Montana. We spent three days together exploring Yellowstone National Park, then we camped with my aunts and their horses up in the mountains and lastly we got in a day trip to Glacier. Rachel
My mom always used to throw the watermelon in the pool and we thought it was such a riot. Jay
I grew up in a small coastal town. Not much money and mom was a single parent. Last day of school meant discarding shoes for bare feet or flip flops we would wear out until our toes touched the ground. Spent the entire day outdoors and had no tv. Spent evenings at the docks watching fishing boats come in. Our neighbor mended fishing nets and she would sit in a metal lawn chair with us on the grass at her feet watching her needles fly. Another neighbor built boats and we would regularly inspect his progress. We were watched by the neighborhood parents and most importantly, we were safe. Sandra
