Say Goodbye to the 40 hour Work Week
Posted Wednesday, July 16th 2014 @ 4am  by KTRH's Scott Crowder

A study says the 40-hour work week is dead because nine of out ten of us work more than 40 hours a week.

John Challenger of outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas says it is what it is.

"I think it's just the way it is. We don't work in the same way anymore."

Challenger says most of us are checking email and working from home at night, on weekends and even on holidays.

"That kind of traditional 9 to 5, Monday through Friday work day is just no longer the way we all operate. But we're seeing changes in technology and globalization; those two big forces change the nature of work."

Challenger says we can't always get away from the office.

"All of us now carry our cell phones and our laptops with us; we're checking our email on weekends, on vacation, after hours. Sometimes we're doing global business and we're on the phone in the middle of the night."

The study says most of us no longer take an hour for lunch, either.
