A military jury has sentenced Major Nidal Hasan to die for the shooting rampage at Fort Hood in 2009.
After two days of testimony from family and friends of the victims in the sentencing hearing the jury deliberated for a couple of hours before returning a unanimous decision to put Major Nidal Hasan to death.
Hasan was convicted of killing 13 people and wounding 32 others on Friday. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, family and friends of the victims told their stories to the jury. They told the jury how their lives have changed since the massacre.
Almost 20 people testified during the sentencing and it was expected that Hasan himself would take the opportunity to address the jury. But, when the time came all he said was, "The defense rests."
Hasan acted as his own attorney throughout the trial against the advice of the judge. It is expected that appeals will be filed on Major Hasan's behalf.
