Gaza Fighting Draws Backlash

Gaza Fighting Draws Backlash
Posted July 30th, 2014 @ 12:08am by KTRH’s Dale Forbis

Fighting in the Gaza Strip seems to be opening the door to incidents of anti-Semitism.  Rabbi Gidon Moscovitz of Meyerland Minyan says says anti-Jewish statements and vandalism are coming in reaction to the fighting between Israel and Hamas militants.

There have been no officially reported incidents in Houston.

“Using this as an opportunity, as a sound board, to get up on whatever soapbox presents itself to them,” says the Rabbi, “and to espouse their anti-Semitic beliefs and tendencies.”

Two rabbis KTRH contacted reject comparisons to the holocaust and they blame much of the negative reactions to a misinformed public.

Is this the start of a second Holocaust?  Rabbi Chaim Lazaroff of Chabad of Uptown isn’t ready to say that yet.

“I don't know if that's true,” he answers.  “I believe in the goodness of people.  I think Americans understand after 9-11 what it means when you have enemies out to destroy us.”
